The details are not clear. She had an innocuous cover job within the CIA. Confirmation of that job should not be an issue. She had a covert job as well. Were they under different names? Was the name Valerie Plame the one they confirmed?

Even if both jobs were under the same name, confirmation of the innocuous job would be a non-issue. Perhaps it was only the association with her working for the CIA and the "initialing a mission to Niger" that together exposed the covert side of her employment.
