That reminds me. I won my first game of GalCiv2... by vampire 2006-07-12 10:31:14
last night. Black Hole guns are nasty nasty things. And all those comments, I have seen on reviews and other places, about never researching the entire tech tree? LIES! I went the research route and used influence to take planets. After awhile my research was gaining new technologies an average of 1 every 3-4 weeks (most of them took 2 weeks). I could maintain a very small military because my ships were so much more advanced than anyone else. Which just helped me spend even more on research. When I finally did start going after the other races, I was able to complete the tech tree because it took me a while to switch my civilization over to production from research. Before I did that, it was not logistically feasible to mount a concerted attack against anyone. According the the game summary after winning, my most powerful ship was actually Military Space station (close to 300 attack and over 200 defense not counting ship assistance). I slaughtered 3 civilizations with less than a dozen warships.
