Train accident in Chicago. by hadji 2006-07-12 07:46:43
I'm sure that many of you have heard about the subway accident in Chicago (it was on CNN). If you haven't, the accident occurred on the blue line, which is the line that takes me home after work. If anyone is wondering, I'm fine. Instead of going straight home yesterday, I went out to dinner first. The restaurant had a TV tuned to CNN, and while nothing could be heard, there were the textual displays (who needs to listen to news anymore?).

Anyway, what I've not yet heard is which train of the blue line had the accident. As you may guess, it's a two-way line. In addition to that, in the direction of my home, there are two trains that go in that direction. The track forks off, so there are two possible destinations. After dinner, when I tried to catch my train, it seemed the entire blue line was shut down. I had to find a different way home, which ended up involving the green line train and a half-hour walk.

This morning, I heard that the accident (a derailment) sparked a fire, and 150 people were hospitalized. With my going to dinner before trying to catch my train, and with the track forking off as it does, I'm not sure if I was incredibly lucky, or if it just . . . wasn't my tine.
