Mix equal parts of granulated sugar and borax cleaning powder (as found in products like 20-Mule Team borax. There are other brands and as a cleaner, it's fairly common). I usually mix it in a ziploc baggie.
Sprinkle the powder mixture around the outside of the wall where you see the ants coming in. Or around any areas where you see the ants outside your house.
Borax is toxic to ants but not terribly toxic to people or pets. Because of the sugar, the ants will carry the sugar AND borax back to their anthill, where the borax will kill the queen and any ant who eats it.
You'll want to double-check, just in case I'm wrong about the toxicity to pets. And you probably don't want to use it inside where Knuckles could get into it, but if Knuckles is an outdoor cat, she'd probably leave the stuff you put outside alone...many more interesting things for her to play with out there.
We've had a lot of luck using borax against ants, though. Depending on how much rain we're getting, a single application outside can take care of the ants for as much as a couple of months. |
