Linux with sound working out of the box? by carthax 2006-07-03 10:19:58
I want an easy-to-install distro with sound (a la TS and W:ET AT THE SAME FREAKIN' TIME) working out of the box, or with minimal tweaking.

Trying to get TS and W:ET working in Ubuntu has been a nightmare. For the past three weeks, I've been digging through HOWTOs, reading FAQs and searching through forums, and I can't find any way to make the sound work properly on my laptop running Ubuntu Breezy.

As of this morning, following advice found in several locations on the web, I have no sound in any games. Ubuntu still makes noises, but none of the games.

Everyone seems to point to using OSS, which seems like it should work, but it doesn't.

Ubuntu is easy for everything else in the world BUT sound, apparently.

Oh, and MP3 and other "non-free" format support out-of-the-box would be nice, too.
