That's what it eats. And only one sock of a pair. The other manages to escape while it's sibling is being devoured. Pens follow the socks through the para-quasi-wormhole created upon the demise of the socks. The universe then spits out wire coathangers as a by-product. This is easily proven by a simple experiment. Place 5 wire coathangers neatly in your closet and close the door. Go and wash 10 pairs of socks. Once you have hung up the socks to dry (you will notice there are now only 17 individual socks), check on the coathangers. The will a whole lot more, all tangled together. Don't bother making notes because your pen will also have disappeared.
