Ethical dilemma by archnerd 2006-11-19 12:55:59
I've been on a mailing list from Naxos, a record company that publishes a lot of the classical music I listen to. I voluntarily opted in to the list when I signed up for their premium online music service. I occasionally checked their newsletter for any albums that looked interesting.

Last week, though, I suddenly started getting spammed via their mailing list. I'm talking asinine, v1agra, website-hosted-on-myspace spam. With legitimate Naxos headers and the same unsubscribe link at the bottom that I see on their newsletters. It seems they've decided to start profiting from spam, but instead of selling my contact information, they're doing their own spamming!

I unsubscribed from the mailing list and they haven't given me any more trouble.

So my dilemma is this: do I now have to boycott Naxos (which I don't really want to do), or only the third-party products that they spamvertise (which I would never buy anyway)?
