with just the ambient sound some of the mid-high ens software packages should be able to invert the ambient sound and use it to reduce the background noise on the audio file. It won't work for doors banging and people walking in the background, but if it is like a constant machinery noise like an air conditioner, it should be able to improve your sound significently.
