Bush Sr. didn't remove Saddam from power. For one, he did not want to alienate the International community, which had expressed misgivings about doing that. And second, he probably had advisors that could tell him what kind of protracted, bollixed up mess he would get into if he did - he would have to be responsible for the functions of a government, in a hostile country, while trying to build a new one. NOT an easy task, and one that should not be attempted without very good reasons.
At least he might have had more support from the International community. Might! |
