What it has to do with is commonly-accepted parlance. If your listeners are accustomed to using the common definition of a given word, your use of an obscure definition doesn't help you communicate your point. And to expect your listeners to switch over to the definition you mean without explicity explaining as much before you get into the debate is misleading at best and completely unfair at worst.
So again, the responsibility of communicating clearly lies at the feet of the speaker or writer, where it should be. |
