  • If it's Tuesday, and someone says they're driving up "next Thursday"... what day do you think they mean?

    • I would figger that they meant "in 9 days" - based on the idea that Thursday is looming, thus they specified the "next" one.

  • If it's Saturday, and someone says they're driving up "next Thursday"... what day do you think they mean?

    • I would figger that they meant "in 5 days" - based on the idea that Saturday (or Sunday, if'n y'all prefer) ends The Week(TM), so the "next" in this instance indicates "next week (within which resides the aforementioned Thursday)"

I'm not saying I would be right in both or either cases, but that's how I roll.
