It's been cited here often enough that the US wasn't formed as a specifically "Christian" nation. AFAIK, European societies didn't practice polygamy any time in the recent past.

Europe is taking a more relaxed view of gay marriage, granted, but apparently the Hispanic and East Asian cultures that make up significant minorities here are not. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

So is it a function of religion, or merely culture?
