of their marriage outside of a religious context, or within a different religious context from yours affect your ability to define your marriage within the religious context that you choose?

Up until the 1950s or so, the "American context" of marriage had always been one man and one woman of the same skin colour. This changed, and it didn't cause the demise of 'traditional marriage'.
