Marriage is much more institutionalized than '"sexual relationship" or even "parent/child relationship"', and that's what does not match the reality. As for Marxism, the original stated goal is to satisfy the needs of each person. Which, of course, inevitably got twisted beyond recognition when trying to implement it in practice.
