Marriage is still the traditional way of stating a partnership. And a solid, committed partnership, despite what the article says about limiting employability, is still a very valuable bond to have, IMO.
Since the traditional sex roles no longer apply, there is no longer a need for the sexual limitations in a marriage - and it would be detrimental to our society to deny the benefits of a marriage bond based on those outdated needs.
However, it is possible that a gay marriage ban may force the development of an asexual equivalent to marriage. Which means that it just could be a benefit to our civilization - by forcing a new solution to a well-established need. |
