you have to pay to find out what coordinates a postcode applies to. There is no way of working it out as each postcode references about 3 individual house in a street I believe. The data is copyrighted and not freely available - it's a pain but thats the way. The best you can do is put the postcode into multimap and it will spit out the coords and then you can use that. Time consuming.

If you only want to map the first 4 digits only it would be a pain but possible to manually work them all out and then put them in the program.

I am not sure what the legal situation for zip codes is - I know they are not as precise as postcodes and reference the physical address of the nearest postoffice to a house (effectively) and therefore are slightly less useful
