Check the WCG website out. Somewhere they explain how much the power will theoretically cost. And the $MEGACORP angle is also explained - it's for US. You and Me. And you, and you, and you. The World Community.

Crunching is my game. Playing NFS on FX-59xx or any big gaming card probably chomps as much if not more power than just my CPU...

As for system lifetime - how long do you want to keep your current box? 2 or 3 years? And besides - I'm running it on (amonst others) an abandoned AMD500 with 192mb that I rebuilt. At my expense at my home on my time with my power. How old is that machine? You don't have to run it on your office servers. Just run it - something about warm fuzzies.
