I hope you find this, considering it's now yesterday's news. In brief, e17 vs. e16 stacks up like this:
1) E17 is obviously not finished, functionality is close to e16 but it feels more like a functional foundation than a complete system. 2) E17 is MUCH faster (damn near no waiting, ever, on my box). 3) E17 has crashed a few times, I've never had e16 crash (in ~2 years of e16). 4) E17 has more eye candy in general, though it isn't complete. 5) E17 has a different configuration scheme, necessitating helper apps ("e_utils" is vital, IMO). 6) Due to it's incomplete state, some things will behave oddly or just plain crash. For instance, it seems to take an eternity for thumbnails to build.
Basically, e17 isn't a replacement for e16 unless you haven't spent time customizing e16. Core to core, I'll take e17 over e16 every time.
If there's some other way I can contact you let me know, I don't want to write a book here (and I can't attach files). The number one thing to keep in mind is to install everything into a safe prefix to prevent messing up the rest of your system, I used "/usr/local/e17". |
