I can't take b3(niacine). I have had it in fortified foods of course. But it must be in very small amounts in those. I kept getting this weird flushing of my skin and itching. I was wondering what the hell it was and one by one went through my suppliments at the time. Reading the b3 label close I found out it can cause that reaction. B6/b12 is recommended for a variety of neurological and other conditions though. I've been off and on it for several years now.
Btw I react to red food colouring as well and blue. Some shades of blue can make me sensitive or more prone to depression. So I don't often drink cola's and I avoid most blue food coloured things.(like blue icing) I will eat it on occasion but as a general rule I avoid that. Most reds will cause a headache in me. Red cream soda can give me a buzz like someone who has had a few beers. It makes me spinny. Which can be funny I suppose. I do it on occasion on purpose but not that often as I get a "hangover' of a horrible headache later.
I use a fair bit of prarie naturals stuff when I do get vitamins because it is local to me. Also I've proved to do well on some of their product. Calcium though when I used to take it I had to be very selective. While I do eat some wheat it's restricted. Apprently some calcium comes from wheat, and other from oyster shell. I can't have either. I did find another which I think was elemental that was safe. I have egg white, citrus, corn, wheat, artificial food flavouring(some of them could kill me), and artificial colouring allergy. I'm particularly careful with the food flavourings after I started to go into shock when I used an artificial almond extract. I also now react to one of the two artificial vanillas. So needless to say I read labels if I buy something I've not had before. One artifical smoke flavouring also sets me off.
But anyways the suppliments I've taken are:
B6/b12
Omega 3/6/9
MSM Joint formulate(crondrotin and glucosamine in it)
D2(or D3)
Sam-E (this one is very useful for FMS people but bloody expensive)
I used to take St. John's wort but it can be hard on the liver. Also probably not good to mix it with sam-e. I also used to take devils claw which can help with some of my swelling due to 2 other conditions I have.(oddly neither are rheumatoid as devils claw is most commonly used for that) Blue green alge which is recommended for a variety of things to including autism.(which also the b complex benefits)
Then besides all that I use epson salts and sometimes aromatherapy. *shrug*
What I have yet to see that would be cool... if people sold natural food colouring. If they did we might see more places taking it on and dropping the other stuff. Blue is known to cause cancer yet most versions of it are still approved for consumption and are a coal biproduct. Several reds are still in use and they are known for neuro issues... and the yellows ... well at least one is linked to causing asthma attacks. :P My son goes psychotic on whatever blue that is in hubba bubba gum. He had it once and then never again. His baby sitter and I had never seen such a reaction ever before in him to something. But until then he didn't consume those things as since I didn't he never had it around. The babysitter gave it to him and that's how we found out. :P |
