I don't get XML namespaces by SnappingTurtle 2006-04-12 14:12:42
I mean, I get the concept of namespaces in general. I use them all the time in Perl, for example. I mean, I don't get how they're used in XML.

Reading the chapter on namespaces in "XML in a Nutshell" was one of the weirdest experiences of my life. I thought I understood what was going on. Then I got to the end of the chapter and it seemed to me like they ended the chapter with the following sentences:

One more thing: this entire chapter was just a joke. There really is no such thing as namespaces. We made it all up. Psyche!
That was a confusing moment.

I'm not asking for help. I just need to vent. I'm sure I'll catch on eventually, the way I did with object oriented programming lo those many years ago.

Oh, but one thing: anybody who says "What don't you understand?" will be LARTed. If I could explain what I don't understand in more detail than "the whole thing" then I would probably understand. Technical people who say "what don't you understand" should wear large badges that read "I won't help you."
