Grammar geeks: need a ruling here by SnappingTurtle2006-04-12 13:37:26

Regarding the confusion from interpretation, this sentence is obviously from a conversation and based on that context, the reader/listener would be able to determine whether you meant "run to the outside" or "starts to run while already outside". You do not the comma as you have the second sentence. I will try to explain. But, my grammar terminology is very rusty (nit pickers will be flogged :B). You have an introductory clause "If she does run outside" followed by an imperative (command) sentence. "don't panic" is a complete sentence and it is following an introduction, thus necessitating the need for a comma. As well, if you really want to be particular about grammar, avoid the use of contractions.

If she does run outside, do not panic.
