If you use household help (cleaning personnel, baby-sitters, etc.) and you claim a deduction of part or all of what you pay them (especially for child care), the IRS will demand the SSNs of anyone you pay. This is to make sure that what you pay out that the IRS doesn't tax YOU for is accounted for and properly(?) taxed.
