| That said, the documentation SUCKS. The game has some rather enjoyable features and they seem to have ripped off tons of little bits from all over the Sci-Fi genre. A good friend and fan of MoO 3 says the background music is suspiciously familar. The planet names will seem familar to most of you and I've caught several other references snuck in here and there, some more obvious than others. If the final Genesis, er, terraforming research technology text along with reference to Dr Carol Marcus (sp?) isn't a nod at Star Trek III (?), I'm a monkeys uncle. I wouldn't be have surprised if they aren't sued over the abundant references (ok, so they are funny). Anyhow, if you enjoy these sorts of games, you will more than likely have a great time with this game. Some hints when playing. Starbases are your friend. Build them. Upgrade them. Place economic starbases near trade route stops and near planets that generate economy. Put mining starbases on any resource you can grab. Destroy any foreign influence starbase on your borders and use them to your own advantage when possible. If a foreign race establishes a strong influence near your planets, they will eventually secede and join the other race. Every planet does not need every building. Larger populations require increasingly (not exponential but not a stright line either) higher investments in happiness improvements. You will never research all of the technologies (I've played the current game trying and there's just WAY too many research technologies to make it possible). Designing ships is fun. Construction can be queued, governors can automatically upgrade buildings as you reseearch technology improvements. Expand early. No one will have the tech to attack your planets early one, so grab the nearby good ones early. Good luck and have fun. |
