Random question about Bipolar disorder by fiordhraoi2006-04-12 07:57:34
seasonal affect disorder? by drsuzi2006-04-12 08:17:54
    I actually have S.A.D by Celticess 2006-04-12 09:39:11
And have had it most my life. No it doesn't make me suicidal thank you very much and I am *not* bi polar as any of the shrinks that have seen me since I was about 6 will attest to. Though yes they are related in the manner that they both have manic and depressive episodes. I also have vitamin D deficiency which can also cause some depression type symptoms. Stabelizing my D didn't rid me of SAD however. My SAD despite the ups at season change(spring) and downs(winter) is pretty good unless someone triggers my anxiety at seasonal shift.

No full spectrum lights work on most but not all. As mentioned my vitamin D deficiency disorder. It doesn't matter how much light I get fullspectrum bulbs or not.

Sam-e(you really don't want me to type out it's full name) is very handy for SAD and apprently works on other mood disorders. Ironically I don't take it for SAD though I discontinued zoloft(which I only took in winter and at seasonal shift before). I take sam-e for fibromyglia and polyarthropathy.(it has shown promise for osteo and other athropathies like FMS) I was put on it by my rheumatologist a few months ago.

Also not all of us with depressive state wallow in bed. Yes sleep longer, less motivation, and lethargy. I even get insomnia in depressed state but I have sleep apnea and no way in hell I'm tryping the copd machine.(can't stand things on my head) I get up sometimes at 5:30 am in the summer and can stay awake as late as 4am(due to problems falling asleep). In winter I sleep til about 8-10am and may also still have problems falling asleep. I only stick in bed if my other health calls for it... because 1) it's boring and 2) I have a bad back and it doesn't help it for me to stay in bed.

Oh and as an option to sam-e I had efflexor suggested because it's also showing high ancedotal evidence for working with FMS patients. However it has withdrawl syndrome. I didn't want to chance that so I just didn't go there. Why the doc suggested it was sam-e isn't covered by my medical plan and also costs $1 a pill or more.

Anyways. I take D at minimum of 1000iu(I was on 50,000iu of it per week at one point and due to the pth issue I'm not on calcium), b6/b12(b3 makes me rash out so I don't take it), and omega 3/6/9. I also take an msm joint formula and as mentioned sam-e. I can no longer take t3's or the like for my various arthropathies, etc because I have high liver enzymes(no I'm not hep and was low risk anyways... and nope don't drink. They aren't sure why it's like that)
