Random question about Bipolar disorder by fiordhraoi2006-04-12 07:57:34
seasonal affect disorder? by drsuzi 2006-04-12 08:17:54
its a form of bipolar. basically you get really depressed every winter if you don't deal with it and take care of yourself. Some people also get a bit manicy in the summer, but that is less common. Its a real phenomenon, best demonstrated by suicide counts, whicha re usually doulbe in the winter what they are in the summer, depending on your lattitude. People can have everything from mild blues/grumpiness in the winter (normal) to full blown I-can't-get-out-of-bed-I-want-to-die depressions.

Seasonal bipolar disorders are very treatable however. Treatments include meds and full spectrum lights to trick your system. Other treatments are of course the same as for any depression: forcing yourself to go out there and do stuff, and getting your mood up that way. Wallowing in bed never cured a depression and it really only feels good for a day or two.
