But references are scalars. You can have a hash keyed by IP, with the elements being references to either hashes or arrays that contain the individual information for each IP. (The choice is just a matter of style and maintainability). For persistence, you can either use DBM::Deep to back the structure with a disk file, or you can use Storable to serialize it to a string that can be stored essentially anywhere.
