do you want to "access your directory through pine" or "mail" interfaces ?
I'm sure the latter could be scripted somehow. But I never saw something like this done.

Oh, maybe: the (ancient) "Netscape mail client" DID put every mail in a separate file, made mail-folders as real directories etc. That part thus gives you half of your "gui" interface already.

Did you look into the newer "Mozilla Mail client" ? I think it's thunderbird.

( As this w*rk machine already comes with M$OL installed, configured to access MSE (Microsoft Stock Exchange?) and almost-no local installation rights, I didn't install it. Would probably break during the install for "insufficient privileges" and/or not connect well to the non-mail features of MSE )
