...and his family is a fan of the large wedding receptions (and is seemingly willing to put money where mouth is if necessary). I am of two minds on this: On the one hand, I'm an introvert and don't do well with large crowds- even if it's my family and friends. I go into overload. And there's the family dynamics just mentioned. It would be simpler and less stressful to just run to Tahiti or something and elope. Boyfriend would rather have a large party. On the other hand, there's probably two times in a person's life where everyone who loves you gathers in one place to celebrate you and your life: your wedding and your funeral. And you only get to enjoy one of those. I do have a couple of wonderfully evil cousins I would ask to be bridesmaids- they have the proper mindset to deal with the family dynamics issues and planning details. A bottle of Glenlivet, a nice pair of new shoes, and a chance to be Pitr-level evil is a cheap price for a wedding planner :P Left to our own devices, WE could only afford to elope- and if you accept family's money, it can translate into nasty arguments over what sort of reception the money is going toward. We're not even engaged yet- we talk about it, starting to ask the heavy questions about where we want to be.
