...a lower chance of getting a long-term paying trade.
...a lower chance of advancement if you stay in.

This according to other people who I've heard the opinions of. Here in Canada it's all been amalgamated into one force, and when I was of enlisting age they weren't taking people on (yes, I checked), so I don't have direct experience.
