| They can and will. Your recruiter will lie to you. They can not change your time though (but do talk to a lawyer if you can) or your benifits. And don't for the sake of yourself and everyone in your unit, don't join for the benefits. Milk'em for benefits as long as you want to be there but don't go for that reason. No matter what you train for they can always retrain you for what they need. And no one wants to be next to someone else who isn't ready to fight in a foxhole.
Another thing, about retraining, before I went into IRR, the Army Reserves issued an order that everyone on the Reserves must be trained in at least one of 7 critical MOS's (jobs) that are desperately needed overseas. That way the MPs, medics, truckdrivers, and other critcal people could quit going back every 3 months. I don't know about regular army though. So, no job is a safe job. |
