So, I sent my minion home for the day today. by spiffikins 2006-03-31 15:39:33
Yesterday, one of our contacts in Asia who is working on a very important project with us, sent an email to $MINION saying that they had finished translating the new messages into Japanese on the official template site and could we please migrate the translations into the site we are delivering today (Friday).

I immediately emailed $MINION to say, *don't* do this right away - this is the task that I asked you to document out your checklist of items before we do it. (never mind that I asked 3 weeks ago for the checklist...)

I got a document back, that had nothing to do with the migration task. I talked to $MINION and explained that this is a task we have never done before, it's very complex and she needs to write up the document based on the notes she took 3 weeks ago when we brainstormed about it, and tomorrow (Friday) we would go over the checklist and talk to the VP of Engineering to make sure we didn't miss anything.

8:30pm I receive the document, I go over it, and it's missing the key elements - all the big scary nasty pieces that are the reason I wanted the document - I figured she wouldn't see those ones, because she hasn't done this before. hence, the document.

I make some changes and send it back saying 'we need to brainstorm more Friday morning and run it past $VP_ENGINEERING'

Today, I am going over it with her and we're looking at the data trying to figure out the big scary nasty pieces, when she makes an offhand remark - "oh, yeah, $JAPANESE_PARTNER emailed me at 5pm asking me again to do the migration, so I did it yesterday".

wtf?

I'm sure I'm mishearing her, so I clarify - you already did the migration of translated messages? The migration that we're discussing today and currently identifying the process of how to do it?

"yes, he asked me to"

She got sent home. I spent 4 hours trying to clean up the data. And Monday or Tuesday, we're having a meeting with her, and my boss - she may no longer work here after that meeting.
