Just about all shops are closed on Sundays, and they have to be by law. There's a shopping Sunday once per month. It's a historical thing, it is --- Christians used to be the dominant social group (now it's agnostics). I must say I like it well, and wouldn't want it to change. It protects the small businesses.

On the other hand, if the status quo was that shops are open on Sundays, and some christian group tried to change that, I'd be signing the petition trying to thwart said Christians.
