"adult". Ya, I agree --- at 16 you're not a full adult yet. I was merely pointing out that it makes sense to be allowed to have sex before you are allowed to vote.

We don't have that many credit cards here, it's mostly bank accounts with debet cards, and AFAIK, you need a parent or guardian to open one until you're 18.

Contracts, I don't know. I do believe it's possible to sign a contract for a summer job at under 18 without requiring a parent or guardian to co-sign .

Medical decisions about yourself, you *are* allowed to make, to the best of my knowledge --- at least, I would be sorely disappointed if you weren't.

As for driving: no, you have to be 18. I think that the driving age is lower in the US partly out of necessity — our country is way smaller, and we have good public transport.

Anyway, my point was made in the 1st paragraph. The rest is just background info.
