I don't know about different magnitude. One is a decision that'll affect you in a profound way personally, the other is a decision that may impact everyone around you.

Legal age is the age where you should be reasonably expected to know and accept the consequences of your decisions, and deal with them yourself. Signing contracts (including credit/financial decisions), voting (sort of an extension of the contract) and sex (you can mitigate the risks, but not eliminate them). Different cultures will assign different ages reflecting their views of same, of course.

However, IMHO, you shouldn't put yourself in a position to (possibly) have a baby until you are able to sign a lease for your own apartment and legally make your own medical decisions. But that's just me. Self-control; alien concept among many, I know.
