<SPOILERS> - (maybe)

The number in parenthases indicates size and number of word(s) that are the answer. In this case, a single 4-letter word.

The other clue is the phrase "has in it" tells us that the answer's letters are in the word "laboratory".

Hmmm...

*brain grinds*

1000 young sheep - kilo-ewe, or Kewe, or ewe-K, or UK, or the Tory party in the UK?

              I was thinking 1000 lambs = k lamb = klam = clam, by Esteis2006-03-31 10:29:28
