I would think it's basicly the ration of government controlled / non government controlled media.

And in that respect it doesn't matter greatly if the media is controlled by force, or by the fear of beeing labeled "un-[country]-an", or by the simple fact that the people funding the government also funding the media.

In that respect I'm more worried about some faceless cooperation with a lot of cash taking things over nowadays, than a dictatorship clique taking over by influencing people the old fashioned way.

After all, some years ago stadiums and stuff where named after people and places, but today most of them are named after the highest bidding company. Kinda shows the directon things are going.
