on it" it doesn't work - banks will initiate the transaction immediately upon receipt of the check. Once I tried to pay a credit card bill, which was due on the 3rd, by sending a postdated check (for the 2nd) around the 22nd of the previous month. Had to pay the overdraft on my checking account because of it.

Now all my bills are being paid on-line.
