Sucks for others, you have to be lucky to get the right one (vehicle) to match the good Haynes manuals. My 90 Nissan pickup, for instance, has a mediocre Haynes but which suffices for most things. For detailed repairs I get the local mechanic shop, they have all sorts of info on CD or DVD disk, and he zaps the appropriate diagrams to his printer for me. In return, his printer still works, likewise his computers....
But I do prefer the Chiltons when I can find one.
(No, I don't do Mafia-style "protection" on the mechanic's machines. We swap info, my computer expertise for his vehicle info, and I do his repairs for the cost of the parts. He repairs my old pickup for cost of parts, plus just a little for the trouble. So, we both win. He gets the easier end of the deal, though, since the old Nissan breaks down or needs help about one time for every fifteen or twenty computer repairs. Grease-monkeys are hard on PCs. Even harder on printers.) |
