That's the way they calculate it in this state, anyway. I imagine a similar figure is used in the Canadian justice system. And a life sentence is not the same as a life sentence without the possibility of parole. So, after some percentage of the sentence has gone by, the prisoner is eligible for parole, even on a "life" sentence.
Charles Manson's original death sentence was commuted to life in prison, with parole eligibility. So he comes up for hearings every few years, he acts like a violent schizophrenic psychopath with delusions of grandeur, and they put him back in the clink. |
