I thought your point was that you didn't trust the Iranians with any type of nuclear power, not even for producing electricity.
I think they might go with it though. Their Government, like any, only wants to stay in power. If it comes to a war, they'll lose power, even if the attackers end up with another mess like Iraq on their hands, so that's not in their interest. If they back down, they lose the support from the population, the mullahs take over, and again, they lose. So this solution gives them a way out, both towards the other countries, and towards their people. They'd have secured a research facility, enabling them to train their own specialists, and they'd have secured an energy source for their country. Spin it nicely, and it looks like they pushed Iran right to nuclear energy through the council and avoided a war. |
