Untill a few years ago, .dk by Tyop 2006-03-30 10:05:17
had a pone monopoly, Tele Danmark It was a company on shares, but all shares were held by the state.
About 10 yrs ago, that company was sold, but, curiously enough as a part of that sale, the carrier network (copper and fibre) was given to this now public company. A value of roughly $1.000.000...
For the last 10 years or so, that company has effectivly pwned us, as they were the only ones who could provide a land line.
There were other telcos waiting, but until ~ 5 years ago it was so hideously expensive to gain access to the carrier network, that it was effectively not worth while.
Some years ago a bill was passed, that forced TeleDK to let other telcos have access to the carrier network. There has only been real competition on the market for the past 5-8 years.
Flat rate on telephony is now available, but not from TeleDK...
I recently changed my cellphone service provider. They too made sure I noticed transition.

The monopoly mindset still thrives.
