Stripping the Active bit from a partition by tully_marrs2006-03-30 07:58:49
Why not use a boot disk and by classic_jon 2006-03-30 08:55:41
only have the IDE drive plugged in to make sure you are only messing with the drive you intend on formatting. From your boot time problem, it almost sounds like either a issue with that MOBO in having two different drive types or the IDE drive is headed south...fast or it is cycling through all of the other drives and recognizing them before it tries to boot off of a slave drive. 98 and some motherboards are not real thrilled about booting off of a slave drive for some reason (shrug) Also as someone else said 98 does not natively know what SATA is so you will have to find a driver for support to do it that way.

My suggestion is to dump off all of the data onto the XP drive and just format the drive. THa twill solve all of your problems and take care of any nagging problems with the file system from win 98. even though you can convert a drive from FAT32 to NTFS if there are any file system problems you stand a chance of them getting worse or it not converting correctly and having to format it anyway.
