When I worked at a 'PC Hardware Store', I used a range of Linux boot disks and LiveCDs for testing.... Well I could have spent the 40 minutes installing XP, or I could just stick a knoppix CD in and have it fully usable in a couple of minutes. Easy choice. I also introduced said store to the concept of bootable pen drives full of DOS-based testing utils like memtest, and the HD DFTs from the various manufacturers.
