Last time(s) I checked, neither Dell nor Lenovo offered "non-windows pre-installed" stuff. When I called them on that (sorry, over a year ago) the representative answering the phone told me "that they have to load windows anyhow, to make sure they aren't shipping defective hardware"
And in Linux journal (yes, that may be biased) I read that a "PC hardware store" repair person used "linux on a floppy, to quickly test hardware after PC's were assembled". If his Linux flop detected errors, he would refuse going through the windows install "because if it doesn't break windows before the client accepts and pays, we will have a problem machine and an unhappy client."
Well, that Latitude WAS a nice machine, its successor is too. But first things first: before getting a new home-pc, we 'd better move to the home. And that willstill be some months. THEN I can afford buying "locally" as well, which is a bit harder today. |
