But it is still hypocritical to bring a child to church "for their sake" if you don't believe in the church. At least if it is YOUR child; as a parent, you would wish to instruct your child in what you believe, whether it is religion, manners, financial responsibility, etc; as parent you prepare your child for the future when they will be responsible for themselves. To bring your child to church, then the rest of your time with them be atheist IS hypocritical, and the child will pick up on that, even if it is just an undefinable inconsistency in the childs mind.

So it does need to be the mother's responsibility to bring the child to church, but it should not impact the custodial split - if a 50/50 split is deemed appropriate, then Sundays would have to be traded for another day to maintain custodial equality, in order for church every Sunday to be an appropriate judgement
