so moving in with them would be giving up the entire support network I have down here in LA, including my job and my professional networking associations and my vocal group (not to mention my voice teacher, my doctor/chiropractor/dentist, the renaissance faire...)
And besides all that, it's not "shame" that keeps me from moving back in with my parents. It's the fact that after 3 days we're at each others' throats.
My apartment is too overstuffed with my belongings to get a roommate in here (it works when McNut is here because we don't mind being that close). It's only a one bedroom, and it came furnished so there's only one bed.
Moving to another apartment would require hiring people to move all my stuff (cuz although the apartment is furnished, 3 bookshelves and the CD shelving are mine, as are 2 desks and a big chair... and I've now got a bad back and no friends willing to help move who have a vehicle that could carry this stuff). I'd have to find a place that was big enough for my stuff but was already furnished (or else I'd have to buy a bed... yet another expense I can't afford) with a roommate I can stand. ... and that's the problem. One of the reasons I'm marrying McNutcase is that he was the first "roommate" I had who I didn't feel like killing after a few days.
I intend to move to a cheaper apartment as soon as I can. The problem is that all apartments (that I'm aware of) do credit checks. While I've got great credit, I've also got over 100k in loans on the report, and the report will indicate that I've only been employed a couple months. Most places wouldn't want to take that risk. So my intent is to get a long-term job and look for a place after a few months. That way I get the cheaper place and have enough saved up for the security deposit (which I wouldn't have enough money for now) and hopefully enough to buy some furniture, as the most likely scenario for cheaper places involves unfurnished apartments. ... also involves longer commutes (or more dangerous neighborhoods... take your pick)...
But yeah. I'll stop complaining. I've actually got some decent prospects for work... it's just that it's taking so long and I hate having to actually ask for charity or financial assistance as (before law school) I was completely financially independent... and then throughout law school I was dependent on loans and my parents (because the loans were insufficient for living in LA after the tuition was paid). Now after law school I'm dependent on the loan companies giving me "charity" (in the form of lower payments in exchange for significantly more interest in the long term) and my parents (when the cash flow falls short). I hate it. I hate being forced to depend on others like this.
I'm capable of working and earning my own living. It just feels like nobody will let me (other than people who have no power over the situation).
but yeah. I had a decent pre-interview yesterday (for a job that I'm *really* not excited about, but it's a job with benefits), and I'm starting to network in the music industry, so maybe something will come of that...
but sometimes, a girl just needs to complain, and needs to be allowed to complain without people trying to tell her how to "fix it" when she hasn't asked for such advice.
But that goes back into the whole Mars/Venus thing, and we don't want to be going there at this point. |
