For the last time, atheism is NOT a religion! by mortaine2006-03-24 17:59:14

I think you have a narrow definition of "Christian by mortaine 2006-03-24 20:03:25
Not all Christians feel so strongly that they would absolutely firmly insist on their kid being raised in any religion. Heck, most Christians are Christmas-Easter observers.

I don't think atheism is incompatible with other religions. I think my particular beliefs are incompatible with anyone insistent on imposing their religion on others, but that's me-- I am very firm in my particular beliefs.

Many atheists do not care strongly enough to insist on raising their kids one way or another.

In any case, I think it's unfair of a judge to say that a father can't have visitation on Sundays just because he doesn't take his kid to church. One crucial piece of information missing is the age of the kid involved. If the kid is over about 13 or so, it's fair for them to have some self-determination on whether they get to go to church or not. If the kid is under 13, a shared custody/visitation schedule in which the kid goes to church every other week is fair.

Your argument that they were incompatible in the first place disregards the possibility that one of them has changed their beliefs. And, of course, the fact is that they are in the process of divorce: obviously they are incompatible.
