I've never heard the Roman Emperors described quite this way before. Show on the History Channel about Caligula. They were making analogies to modern leaders in describing the various emperors involved. Tiberius was compared to Nixon, a grumpy old man and not especially popular. Germanicus was compared to John F. Kennedy, young and very popular, cut down in his prime probably as a result of a conspiracy/assassination.
I've known the history of the Roman Emperors for years, but I'd never heard that particular comparison before. Seems like a pretty good one as long as it isn't taken too far. Any history buffs out there agree or disagree?
On a side note, this show is reminding me that, really, modern politicians aren't nearly as frelled as that lot were. ;p |
