This is not a state issue.

Would you have preferred a ruling where the father was allowed to see the son on Sundays provided he took him to church? Because he does have to go. It's a religion thing. It does, in fact, have nothing to do with the state.

The child may be subject to the state, but it's still more important that, as a member of the church, he is subject to the church.
