My proposal by Kickstart 2006-11-19 12:55:59
Some of the asteroids, like 617 Patroclus, are massive and contain extremely valuable minerals as well as large amounts of water ice. I propose that we send a crew to a smaller, but similarly composed, asteroid from the asteroid belt with the intention of moving it to crash into the Moon. We kick up a crapload of dust, vaporize some of the water, but leave enough behind to facilitate the first moon colony. Certainly there is danger of the asteroid hitting the Earth instead, but we're smart and can figure out how not to do that. At worst we'll probably get some really cool light shows in the nighttime sky from the bits blown off the moon.

Agreement or disagreement?
